Professional Journey

We're passionate about technology

While some didn’t start out to be programmers – we have astronomy majors, teachers, and carpenters among us – most of us came to Resource Data armed with a computer science degree and a solid grasp on modern technologies.

Whether you love frontend, backend, database, application, or web development work, our variety of projects offer something to get excited about for even the most discerning programmer.

Skills

We're always learning. Always enthused about technology.

Technology is constantly moving forward. Our programmers are always adding to their skill sets and staying up to date on the latest technologies through their project work or pursuing certifications. But they bring more than just technical skills to their client work. You’ll fit right in if

  • You can learn new technologies
  •  You can research and understand best practices
  • You’re a leader
  • You have excellent communication skills
  • You can balance multiple priorities and tasks

My favorite part of the job is the variety of work. I get to work in different industries, with different technologies, and with different teams, so I never get bored.

Technical Lead, Anchorage

Challenges

What makes Software Development different at Resource Data

A career as a developer at Resource Data isn’t without challenges, but that’s what keeps your day-to-day work interesting. Balancing time between multiple projects and competing priorities will be key to your success. Tasks can take many forms, from providing estimates for future client work to hunting down bugs in legacy systems to developing web applications from scratch, requiring you to create an action plan on the fly.

I enjoy solving problems with technology.  As long as there are new problems to solve, and new technology to solve them with, then I’m happy.

    Jon Jeans

    Sr. Programmer Juneau, AK

For Jon, working for Resource Data’s Juneau branch means he gets to use his technical skills doing interesting work, learn from other top-notch developers, and enjoy a great work-life balance, all while living in a place as beautiful as Alaska. He likes catching up with coworkers or playing a quick game of ping pong in the office, but also appreciates the option to work remote from home if life gets a little crazy. When he’s not flexing his programming skills for clients like the State of Alaska, there’s a good chance he’s outdoors, hiking, biking, hanging out with his family, or throwing plastic at chains to indulge his unhealthy addiction to disc golf.

A few of Jon’s favorite things

    • Food A solid bowl of ramen
    • Music Rap, Hip-Hop, Country, Rock, Alternative, etc.
    • Video game Anything he can play with friends online.
    • Board game Muffin Time
    • Movie Anchorman, Step Brothers, Pineapple Express, or Superbad
    • Book Wool by Hugh Howey
    • Local restaurant Island Pub
    • Sports team Bulls
    • Place to travel/vacation Hawaii

    Lori McNeil

    Sr. Programmer Anchorage, AK

Anchorage is home to Lori. She was born and raised here and while she enjoys traveling, she misses the ever-changing mountainscapes that border the city when she’s away. The light, the clouds, the snow, the foliage; one day they are sherbet colored and soft with snow, and another they are rugged and rocky with the shades of autumn. At work, Lori enjoys the ever-changing nature of her work for clients in industries from agriculture to utilities to Alaska Native corporations. Projects that support traffic engineering, environmental impact statements, and shareholder management keep her days interesting. And the flexibility to shift hours around her life and work from just about anywhere isn’t bad, either.

A few of Lori’s favorite things

    • Food Mexican and Italian/Greek
    • Music Classic rock, blues, jazz, classical music, great voices
    • Game Oodles and Doodles, Pub Trivia, and word games
    • Movie Pirates of the Caribbean, Back to the Future, and Sabrina
    • Book Arabella by Georgette Heyer, mysteries, and political thrillers
    • Local restaurant Double Musky, Little Italy, Lucky Wishbone.
    • Vacation destination Europe, Hawaii, lower 48, and looking forward to New Zealand
